Pop-rock band, The Summer Set, announced their return to the music industry in August 2021. Since then, they have released four singles, as well as recently announced the release of ‘Blossom,’ part one of the upcoming album. This album is being independently recorded and will be released on September 9 this year.
The Summer Set originally got their start in 2007. However, the band's first full-length album, ‘Love Like This,’ wasn’t released until 2010. I started listening to the band passively about a year or two later. The Summer Set started gaining traction after the release of their lead single, ‘Boomerang,’ in March 2013. That summer, the band hit the road with Vans Warped Tour, which is incidentally the reason I became such a fan. I met the band that year and caught part of their acoustic set, and I remember absolutely beaming. Later that year, The Summer Set's popularity secured them a place in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
A year after the release of their fourth album, ‘Stories for Monday,’ the band announced that they were going on an “indefinite hiatus.” During the four years apart, each member found a way to continue their career in the music industry.
Fast forward four years, and here we are. The band is back together, and they sound better than ever. The Summer Set’s fourth single, ‘Hard Candy,’ was released three days ago (August 12), and it just might be the song of the summer. This track is a tale of clinging to toxicity and loving the flavor regardless of the consequences. It’s punchy, it’s poppy, it’s perfect to sing along to, and it’s the perfect bittersweet, heartbreak anthem for everyone who loves what’s bad for them.
